FTV not fit for viewing in India: I&B consultative panel

The French channel dedicated to fashion, FTV, is not suitable for Indian viewing and goes against the Indian culture, according to a view formed by the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The government, however, hasn't yet taken a decision on banning the channel.

A marathon meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee unanimously formed an opinion that FTV is not fit for viewing in India and should therefore be considered for a ban in its present form.

The FTV Director, Mr. Michael Adams, and his team are expected to fly down to New Delhi next week to meet Ms Swaraj and other I&B officials to present their case.

Another indication that FTV is headed for a ban is that access to the Website of FTV-www.ftv.com-has already been blocked in all the government departments. It means that the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which manages all official Websites, has placed the FTV Website along with the other pornographic channels.
