Famous beauty pageant Shimla Queen 2001 to be held in November

Shimla Queen 2001,one of the oldest beauty pageant’s in India (vintage 1833) is happening at a spectacular venue in Shimla in coming festive season. This year’s event will be launched formally in November. After screening the participants from all over the country, the 21 finalists will assemble in Delhi for the preliminary rounds and grooming. Shimla Queen is an age-old tradition of beauty and fashion in India and was revived in 1999 after a long gap of 15 years, in order to restore Shimla’s past glory and evoke the colonial charm, pomp and grandeur.

The event is jointly presented by Joy Management and the Department of Tourism, Himachal Pradesh. Shimla Queen goes back to 1833,when the first attempt at formally defining beauty was made under the British. Shimla was also the British capital.

Last year Shimla Queen 2000 was sponsored by HT City as a print media partner, supported by Archies cards, Sonora Tiles and co-sponsored by Nivea, Coca Cola, Virgin Atlantic, Wella, Fujifilm, Bacardi, HFCL, Baker Street, Toyota and Chateau Indage and was covered extensively in print and electronic media.

The Jury for Shimla Queen 2000 included Uma Sharma, the Kathak Exponent & Shishya of Birju Maharaj, Jatin Dass, the noted Painter, Penaz Masani the ghazal singer etc. In 1999 Shimla Queen was sponsored by Spice Telecom and the panel of judges included JJ Vallaya, Puru Raj Kapoor, Anna Singh, Suvo Das and Sean Dexter. The event was compared by Nafisa Joseph ex Miss India and MTV VJ.

Shimla Queen 2001 is modelled as an unprejudiced, progressive, proactive and empathetic media vehicle that will generate responses across the country. The event will be promoted in various medium including print, electronic, Internet, radio /fm and out door. The grand finale will happen in Shimla, which will be an entertaining evening with leading performers, an audiovisual show and a fashion show.

Shimla Queen 2001 will also have sub contests such as Miss Photogenic, Miss Beautiful Smile, Miss Beautiful Hair, Miss Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Miss Emotional Quotient (EQ), etc. The Shimla Queen 2001 after her felicitation will be welcomed in Delhi with a Press Conference and will support charity causes through out the year.

Shimla Queen has a special bonding with bollywood. Some of the prominent Miss Shimla is Priya Rajwansh, Kaplana Kartik, Poonam Dhillon, Amita Nangia, Prema Narayan, Sadhana, Salma Sultan, Anjana Kuthiala and Preity Zinta. JD Institute of Fashion Technology is actively associated with this years prestigious beauty pageant and will design and manage all the costumes and garments across the various sequences alongwith established designers.
