ESPN Software India open to alliances

ESPN Software India, which runs the ESPN Star Sports TV channel in a 50-50 joint venture with Star, is open to the idea of forming further alliances. ESPN’s managing director, Mr. Manu Sawhney, said that the company would consider alliances whenever there is opportunity to increase the deliverables to its consumers. The company is in consolidation mode and plans to build up its deliverables in terms of quality sports programmes, Mr. Sawhney said.

ESPN’s plans to foray into the radio segment. It is looking at the FM platform in various cities.

Commenting on the big picture, Mr. Sawhney said that sports and movies are the two key drivers in television. ESPN Star Sports being a sports channel, it is a driver property. As for investment, without naming a figure, Mr. Sawhney said programming and production take up the chunk of expenses in the channel. And the company will continue to invest in areas which are key to its growth, he said.
