Deepak Shourie to head Discovery India on May 7

Discovery Communications India has named Mr. Deepak Shourie as its new managing director. Mr. Shourie will replace Mr. Kiran Karnik, who had announced his intention to leave the company on December 13, 2000.

Mr. Shourie will take over at Discovery on May 7. He will oversee all aspects of Discovery’s business in India including affiliate and advertising sales, programming, on and off air marketing and communications across Discovery’s five brands in India. The five brands include Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Health, Discovery Kids and Discovery Travel & Adventure.

Mr. Shourie will be joining Discovery from Zee. He was with Zee Telefilms/Zee Publishing as director and CEO/operating partner since 1999. Prior to that, he was founder, president and publisher for Outlook magazine; and executive president, Hindustan Times. He has also held senior positions at Living Media, Kothari General Foods, Cadbury India and Metal Box.
