DD Bharati, ETV six new channels goes on air

ETV made its foray into north-India, with the launch of six new channels. The new state-wise channels would cover Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa.

With the launch, ETV now has 11 channels covering different parts of the country. The south Indian media conglomerate, which also owns the Newstime daily, already had state-wise channels covering Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Karnataka, besides an Urdu channel.

Meanwhile, Prasar Bharati Corporation’s latest offering, DD Bharati, too went on air on the Republic Day.

Although the new channel from the public broadcaster’s stable received lukewarm response from cable operators, the government is banking on the “must carry clause” and a high-voltage advertising campaign to make DD Bharati a success. DD News, a dedicated news and current affairs channel which failed to enthuse the viewers had been wounded up.
