Controls vital to prevent monopoly in DTH: Jaitley

Inaugurating the two-day ‘Media UnConvention’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Mr Arun Jaitley said the experience of DTH the world over had showed that it gravitated towards monopolies. Therefore, some restriction were necessary to ensure that it did not happen here and to protect the consumers’ interest. Government’s intention was to encourage competition and discourage monopolies. Even when the Government spoke about content, it did not have any sort of control in mind. Competition was the best form of control, he asserted.
