Businessmen to sponsor Bengali channel SkyB

A new bengali channel SkyB, backed by some Calcutta-based business groups, will be launched on January 26. Mr. Arun Poddar, owner of Budge Budge Mill, is the Chairman of the company, that has been floated for this purpose. Apart from the Paris based designer, Mr Shombit Sengupta, the other board members of the company are Mr Kajal Sengupta of Senbo Industries and Mr P C Sen former Peerless Chairman. SkyB will have its own transponder and will choose one of the city-based distributors, RPG Netcom or SitiCable. At present, apart from DD Bangla, there are six Bengali cable and satellite channels – Tara Bangla, ETV, ATN Bangla and Alpha, besides the two cable channels, CCCN and CTVN.
