Bengali channel CCCN out, SKY-B readying for launch

RPG Netcom's action is part of a plan to crack down on outstanding. An official said it is also warning defaulting cable operators to pay up or face disconnection. It has been broadcasting the warning on its own channel, SNAP.

Meanwhile, SKY-B, a 24-hour Bengali satellite channel, expects to go live on January 26. According to industry sources, the state government-owned Webel and private construction group Senbo are funding the project, while Mr. Ramesh Gandhi promoted Rainbow Production will develop the software. RPG will handle the marketing.

Sky-B will feature news and current affairs, programmes on education, information and entertainment. Another locally tuned channel, Broadcast Worldwide's regional wing, TARA (Television Aimed at Regional Audience), has deferred the launch of TARA Talkies and TARA-Kolkata, a joint venture with RPG Netcom.
