AOL-Turner plans to expand business in India, may seek partnership with Zee

AOL Time Warner and Turner Broadcasting, are exploring opportunities to expand their businesses in India and to pursue potential new partnerships. According to industry sources the talk about the AOL-Zee venture gained currency after Zee News signed a content-sharing deal with CNN.

This is in the context of the Zee Network’s recent announcement that it was scouting for a foreign partner, preferably in the broadcasting sector. Zee had even appointed UBS Warburg for the purpose of identifying a potential partner and working out the modalities of the deal.

In the recent past there has been strong indication suggesting that the AOL-Turner group and India’s Sony Entertainment Television (SET) were considering an alliance of sorts, for distribution of their channels on the same platform in the country.

Industry sources say that Turner and AOL Time Warner are continually exploring opportunities to expand their businesses in India and pursue potential new partnerships. Only time will tell whether AOL-Turner will form an alliance with SET or Zee, or with a third broadcasting company.
