Andhra HC pulls up 6 TV pay channels

In a significant judgement which could have a countrywide fallout, Andhra Pradesh high court directed six television pay channels not to collect subscription from the viewers for programmes which they had not viewed. The bench passed the order restraining the channels – Star TV, Zee TV, Sony Entertainment TV, Modi Entertainment TV, Discovery Channel and HBO – from collecting subscription on a writ petition filed by a cable operator from Vijayawada. The petitioner complained that the pay channels have centralised their operations and were black-mailing cable operators and customers alike.
