Akash Bangla channel to be launched soon

Aakash, a 24-hour Bengali satellite television channel from Sky-B Bangla Pvt. Ltd., will be launched shortly.. The channel has changed its proposed launch date several times. Initially, it was scheduled to be launched on January 26, then deferred to February 15, 18, and then to March 8.

Aakash, unlike other Bengali channels, will be produced locally. This is expected to make it different from other Bengali channels. It promises general entertainment of high quality mixed with a dose of news and current affairs. Rivals like ETV Bangla, Alpha Bangla and TARA Bangla have their production centres at Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi respectively.

However, the channel will be uplinked from Kolkata via Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. to the IS804 satellite and then downlinked to Chennai, from where it will be finally uplinked to the satellite APRI (INSAT2E). It would be the first digital channel to be uplinked in India.
