AIR FM-II to begin service in four metros today

All India Radio's FM channel, AIR FM-II, will be on air in all four metros from today. It will be a composite infotainment channel with a blend of information and entertainment. A third of the programme time will be devoted to news and current affairs, the rest will be made up of music of different genre and light entertainment programmes. Initially, the channel will be on air for 18 hours from 0600 hrs till midnight.

A majority of the programmes in English and Hindi will originate from Delhi while Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai stations will broadcast programmes in Marathi, Bengali and Tamil respectively.

AIR FM-II will carry news on the hour and current affairs programmes including politics, business, markets, IT, science and travel.

There will be a system to review the audience response and the programmes which notch up good ratings will be increased.

All the news programmes will be produced in-house and be made interactive. Private FM channels are likely to take off by December, following an assurance from the AIR that the companies can use its towers.
