24-hr FM news channels to go on air from 26 January, 2001

Information & Broadcasting minister Ms. Sushma Swaraj said, Vividh Bharati and news and current affairs broadcasts on FM were part of the policy framework for privatisation of the airwaves. Though bidding had been completed for 40 select cities/towns across the country, 10 cities will begin FM service in the first phase and more cities will be included gradually.
