TGI 2015 Wave 2 establishes Aaj Tak as the No. 1 channel all across

The Pathankot Terror attack gave Hindi news genre an increase of 145.4 million ratings over the previous 4 week average. Aaj Tak became the No.1 channel and garnered 4.8 per cent more market share than the channel that stood second.

The latest release by TGI (Target Group Index) has reinforced Aaj Tak as the No.1 news channel. The channel is leading according to analysis made BARC, TGI, IRS and MRG Trust Survey.

As per the data, Aaj Tak is 76 per cent  ahead of India TV and ABP News put together (Source: TGI India 2015, Wave 2, Urban India, NCCS ABC, 15 -55 Yrs, Claimed viewers). Aaj Tak is the third most watched television channel across genres. The news channel has beat GEC Channels like Colors, Zee TV, Set Max, Sony Ent and Movie channels like Zee Cinema.

Ashish Bagga, Group CEO, India Today Group commented on the channel’s performance saying, “Aaj Tak has been the clear No.1 Hindi News channel for the last 15 years and the data from TGI 2015– Wave 2 only establishes this fact. There is a consistent focus on raising the benchmarks for news delivery while staying true to the promise of being ‘Sabse Tez’. It is this unrelenting journalistic spirit that has always kept the channel ahead.”

The TGI Report further goes to place Aaj Tak as around 5.7 times of the English News Genre (Source: TGI India 2015-Wave 2, Urban India, NCCS ABC, 15 -55 Yrs, claimed viewers). Aaj Tak is ahead of the competition channels ABP News, Zee News, IBN 7, India TV, NDTV India and India News all put together (Source: TGI India 2015-Wave 2, Urban India, NCCS ABC, 15 -55 Yrs, claimed viewers).

In addition to the TGI Report, Aaj Tak has been consistently dominating the BARC ratings, with the channel breaking records to cross 100 million HSM viewers in coverage. In the latest week, the channel touched highest coverage of 112.2 Million (Source: BARC, Wk 01’ 16, HSM (U+R), 4+ Yrs, NCCS All). This is next only to highest of 114.7 Million touched by Aaj Tak itself (Source: BARC, Wk 48’ 15, HSM (U+R), 4+ Yrs, NCCS All). The leadership is further clearly established with the channel having more than 50 programmes out of top 100 programs of Hindi news genre (Source: BARC, Wk 01’16, HSM (U+R), 15+ Yrs NCCS All, Ranking basis Rat 000s, programmes with duration of 5 Mins or more). The dominance of the channel is further established with the fact that the news show “Special Report” of Aaj Tak alone is ahead of the all the English News channels put together (Source: BARC, Wk 01’16, All India, TG -4+ NCCS All, Grat’000 Aaj Tak (Wk days: 20:00 -21:00) 5 Eng News channels (All days: 02:00 -26:00).
