AXN to stage world premiere of Hannibal Season 3 on Sony LIV

AXN will premiere Hannibal Season 3’s first episode exclusively in India along with the US on Sony LIV.

This initiative was taken by AXN along with the world premiere on Sony LIV 7:30 am onwards on Friday, June 5. All the following episodes will be available on Sony LIV after its telecast on AXN India. All 13 episodes from Season 1 and 2 will also be available on mobile and web on Sony LIV.

Apart from this, starting June 13, AXN will introduce a new series in its ‘Fresh from the US’ weekend slot, which will include CSI Cyber and Orphan Black Season 3 every Saturday at 10 pm and 11 pm, respectively. The slot will be called ‘Fresh from the US’ instead of the earlier ‘Not So Ordinary Weekends’. This is followed by NCIS – New Orleans at 10 pm and Hannibal season 3 at 11 pm starting June 14, every Sunday. Viewers will get a chance to catch the latest shows on AXN India right after their release in the US.

Saurabh Yagnik, Executive Vice-president and Business Head, Sony PIX & AXN India, said “We have always been at the forefront in bringing the freshest and the best content in the US. Further, in a never-done-before initiative, we are having the world premiere of Hannibal season 3, with the first episode premiering on the network’s digital platform Sony LIV. We are confident that our audience would be on the edge of their seats and will keep asking for more.”

He further said, “The shows will be extensively promoted across the network and on digital because there are a lot of conversations on new shows on social media. With this initiative (Hannibal world premiere on Sony LIV), we thought we will break some more clutter and become thought leaders in the category. There is a trend that we see going forward for OTT-based consumption of content in the country and we will definitely look to participate in the phenomena going forward.”

Uday Sodhi, EVP and Digital head, Sony Entertainment said, “What adds up to the success of the digital medium is that it serves entertainment here and now. Fans of a series as absorbing and sumptuous as Hannibal don’t want to wait for the season premier and only a digital entertainment destination such as Sony LIV has the power to cater to their need for instant gratification. Therefore, in association with AXN India, we have come up with this initiative of taking Hannibal to the digital medium.

“With Sony LIV and its Video-on-Demand service, viewers also have the advantage of losing themselves in the exciting world of the show through the carefully curated content from the past to the present. It obviates the need to download low-quality episodes from untrustworthy sources on the internet or request friends to share their stored content,” Sodhi added.

‘Madam Secretary’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘Scorpion’ and ‘Elementary’ are the shows that will be replaced by the new ones. With regards to the brand associations with the shows, Yagnik said that they are still in discussion with the brands and are expected to have some sponsors on board soon.
