The youth just don’t seem to get enough of it. The heady mix of Stars, Music and Live performance, at recently telecast Filmfare awards, had youth glued on to their TV sets. Youth (15-24 Yrs) constituted close 50% of the audience. But has it managed to stand out amongst awards too many?
Before we dive into the numbers, a quick run down on the event. Filmfare perhaps the oldest (instituted in 1953) and surely the most prestigious film awards have a long and rich legacy. But of late several ‘film awards’ have been instituted and have been promoted heavily by TV channels. This year Zee (Zee Cine Awards) and Star (Screen Awards) have already gone on air. Filmfare awards were telecast on Sony 16 February.
Lets look at the TVRs. The show ratings were around 8% for the SEC ABC in CS HHs. This is significantly lower than the last year’s ratings, which were almost 12%.
While the ratings have come down, Filmfare awards have managed to hold on amidst Screen Awards and others. Considering that Screen Awards was on a larger platform- Star Plus, Filmfare has done well with 8% TVRs.
Not surprisingly the show did better amongst the female audience, though by a small margin only as compared with Males. In terms of audience composition there were a few surprises. Sec CDE audience were glued on to the show like no one else and the youngsters too were all there up into the wee hours of the morning watching their favourite stars winning and losing. The 15-24 age group comprised almost 50% of the viewers.
