Internet Portals Advertising in Print during 1st half of 2006: AdEx study

Key Findings:
• 9% rise in Internet Portal ad volume in Jan-Jun ’06 over Jan-Jun ‘05
• Magazines got a mere 9% share in overall Internet Portal advertising in H1 of 2006
• Apart from general portals, recruitment portals garnered a high share of advertising in Newspapers while finance portals advertised more in Magazines
• Southern and Western newspapers had the maximum share in Portals advertising
www.Monsterindia.com topped advertising among recruitment portals; www.5paisa.com had the highest share among finance portals

 This week AdEx India looks into the advertising trends of “Internet Portals in Print” during the 1st half of 2006.
(Note: The entire analysis is based on ad volumes in col. cm)
Growth in Internet Portal advertising in Print across the first halves in 2004-06


• 9% rise in ‘Internet Portals’ Print advertising volumes in H1 of 2006 over H1 of 2005
• Jan-June ‘05 saw a high 74% rise in Internet Portals advertising compared to first half of 2004
Share of Newspapers and Magazines in ‘Internet Portals’ in the 1st half of 2006

• 91% of Internet Portal advertising in Newspapers in Jan-June ‘06
Share of sub-categories of ‘Internet Portals’ in Newspapers and Magazines in the 1st half of 2006

• General Portals took the lead in both newspapers and magazines
• While recruitment portals ranked second in newspapers, finance portals ranked second among magazines
Zone wise share of Internet Portals advertising in Newspapers during Jan-June ‘06

• Southern Newspapers had the maximum share of Internet Portals ad volumes followed by Western newspapers in H1 2006
• 26% share of Internet Portals advertising in Northern newspapers
Top 3 types of Internet Portals across zones in Newspapers in Jan–June 2006

• Except East zone, the Top 3 positions were captured by general, recruitment and finance portals across the other 3 zones in Jan-June ‘06
• ‘Education’ portals topped advertising in East zone followed by general and finance portals
Top Brands in Top 4 types of Portals in Print in Jan–June 2006

• www.monsterindia.com topped advertising among in recruitment portals while www.5paise.com topped among finance portals in H1 2006
• General portals saw highest advertising share by www.Mauj.com while www.Saraswationline.com topped among education portals
Type of Promotions used by Internet Portals in the 1st half of 2006

• 8% share contributed by Sales Promotions in overall Internet Portals advertising in H1 2006
• In Sales Promotions, maximum 73% share of ‘Contest Promotions’ in Internet Portals advertising
Print Innovations used by Internet Portals in the 1st half of 2006

• Only 3 print innovative ad-layout used by Internet Portals during Jan-June 2006
www.Indiavarta.com, www.It-people.com and www.Wallet365.com were the portals that made use of innovative ad layouts
