on Print during Jan-May 07 (Note: The entire analysis is based
on Column Centimeters)

In Overall advertising, Retail sector contributed 7% of volumes
on Print in Jan-May’07 • Jan-May 07 saw approx.
120 new advertisers in Retail sector on Print |
•The
Retail Sector is further divided into Independent Retailers,
Local Retail Shops (Companies) and Display Shop segments.
Shops like the Adani stores, Pantaloons etc. form the Independent
Retail category. The Display shop category consists of all
the display retail shops like A to Z Footwear, Afia Travels
etc. Local retailers of companies for e.g. retailers of Samsung
refrigerators are classified as Local Retail Shops (Companies).

Advertising Seasonality of Retail sector on Print

Due to Festival season, heavy advertising was registered by
Retail Shops in the month of October, wherein max. 43% of ad
volumes were contributed by the Retail Giants
• Pantaloons Retail India, Local Retailer of Maruti Udyog
and Tata Motors were the top 3 players advertising in the Month
of October '06 |

• Among
Local Retail Shops segment, retailers of ‘Automobile’
contributed nearly 70% of ad volumes on Print in Jan-May 07
• 19% growth in ad volumes was registered by Independent
Retailers during Jan-May’07 over Jan-May’06 whereas
Local Retail Shops (Companies) and Display Shops saw a dip

• Top 10 list saw players catering to Value/Lifestyle,
Discount Retail, Garment as well as Consumer Electronics segment
• Market specific Retailers like Silk Museum (from West)
and Kalyan Silk Sarees (based in South) also made to the Top
list

Overall, 293 new retail shops were launched on Print during
Jan-May 07, out of which the Local Retailers of companies
contributed the highest 71% of shops however 29% of shops
belonged to Independent Retailers
• 5 of the new shops advertised with different concepts
like The Mobile Store (Retail Telecom), Home Town (A Home
Solutions Store), Rangoli Sarees (Garments), Vadodara Central
(city based Multi format Retail Store) and Fabcity (Hypermarket)

during Jan-May’07
• Among Sales Promotions, maximum usage of Price and
Multiple Promotions by Retail Shops
• Top 3 Retailers with maximum usage of Sales Promotions
were Kalyan Silk Sarees, Pantaloons Retail India and E Mart
India
