Hair Conditioners advertising in Print dips by 81% in 2004: AdEx study

Key Findings:
• De-growth of 81% in Print advertising in 2004 compared to 2003
• Newspapers were the thrust of advertisers in 2004
• Maharashtra scores highest in category ads in Newspapers in 2004
• Delhi Magazines get maximum ads by Hair Conditioner advertisers in 2004
• 0.0001% share of Hair Conditioner category in overall Print advertising in the 1st half of 2005
• Only one brand, Garnier Fructis Conditioner, advertised during the 1st half of 2005.

This week, AdEx India looks at the ‘Hair Conditioner’ category. The chart below shows the growth of Hair Conditioner advertising in Print across the years 2003-04. (There was no advertising by Hair Conditioners in 2001-02.).

 


• 2004 observes de-growth of 81%.

Do these ads appear more in Newspapers or Magazines during the year 2004?


• 54% of ads appeared in Newspapers while Magazines got 46% share.

Do Hair Conditioner advertisers prefer specific regions? The chart below gives the answers.


• In Newspaper advertising, Maharashtra gets 61% share followed by Rajasthan in 2nd position (14%)
• In Magazine advertising, Delhi gets 38% share followed by West Bengal in 2nd position (23%).

Let’s take a look at the share of Hair Conditioner category in total advertising spends in Print in the 1st half of 2005 compared to the 1st half of 2004


• 0.0001% share of Hair Conditioner category, out of all categories advertising spends, in the 1st half 2005 whereas negligible spends in the 1st half of 2004.

The table below shows the Advertisers in Print, along with their brands, advertised during 2003-Jun ’05.


• Trend of single brand advertising in Hair Conditioner category across 2003-June ‘05
• L’Oreal was the only advertiser spending in Hair Conditioners in 2004-June ‘05
