Highlights:

•Print advertising of OTC (Over the Counter) sector grew by 9% during Jan-Sept '07.

•OTC sector advertising at maximum during 1st and 3rd quarters of 2006 and 2007.

•High advertising of 'Range of OTC Products' in Print during Jan-Sept '07.

•General Interest Newspapers and Women’s Magazines were preferred by OTC players.

•‘Multani Pharmaceuticals' moved to No. 1 spot during Jan-Sept '07 from 6th place in Jan-Sept '06.

•‘Cipla I-Pill' was the most advertised new brand in Print.

Volume Growth of OTC sector in Print


•OTC sector had 2% share in total Print advertising during Jan-Sept'07.

•Newspapers and Magazines were used in an advertising ratio of 95:5.
Quarterly advertising share of OTC sector
Shree Baidyanath Ayur Bhawan’ and ‘Zandu Pharmaceutical Work Ltd’ led the advertising during Q1 ‘07, whereas ‘Ratan Ayurvedic Sansthan’ and ‘Multani Pharmaceuticals Ltd’ contributed maximum share during Q3 '07.

•During 3rd quarter of 2007 the advertising volume of OTC sector was36% more compared to the 2nd quarter but was 5% less compared to the 1st quarter of 2007.

•‘Multani Pharmaceuticals Ltd’ and ‘Ratan Ayurvedic Sansthan’ advertised the most under 'Range of OTC products' during Jan-Sept '07.

Shital Prasad & Sons’ and ‘Shree Baidyanath Ayur Bhawan’ led the advertising of ‘Vitamins/Tonic & Health Supplements’

‘Antiseptic Creams/Liquids’, ‘Artificial Sweeteners’ and ‘Petroleum Jelly’ recorded maximum advertising growth during Jan-Sept '07 over Jan-Sept '06.

Usage of Genre by OTC sector during Jan-Sept ‘07


•69% of advertising volume on General Interest Newspapers was contributed by 'Range of OTC Products', ‘Vitamins/Tonics/Supplements’ and ‘Health Stimulant/Ginseng’ during Jan-Sept ‘07.

Apart from 'Range of OTC Products', ‘Contraceptives’ brands were the 2nd most advertised segment in Women’s Magazines.

Positioning of top advertisers of OTC sector during Jan-Sept '07



Maharshi Badri Pharmaceutical' moved up to 8th place in Jan-Sept '07 from its 83rd place in Jan-Sept '06.

•‘Ratan Ayurvedic Sansthan’, ‘Shital Prasad & Sons’ and ‘Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Ltd’ maintained their ranks across both the periods.

Top New Brands of OTC sector advertised in Print during Jan-Sept ‘07

•Overall 563 new OTC brands were advertised in Print during Jan-Sept '07%.

•The top 10 new brands list had 3 under ‘Range of OTC Products’ and 2 from ‘Condoms’ category.
