Highlights:

• Automobile advertising saw a decline of 19% on print during Jan-Aug 07 compared to Jan-Aug 06.

• March 2007 saw the maximum Automobile advertisements.

• 53% of the ad volumes were contributed by Car/Jeep segment.

Maruti Suzuki was the main advertiser in the Automobile sector.

• Maximum advertising share of Automobile Industry in Non-Metro city newspapers.

• Automobile advertisers preferred Multiple and Price Promotional ad campaign.

The categories taken into consideration for the analysis are as follows:


Ad Volume Growth of Automobile Industry



• Automobile had a 6% share in overall Print advertising during Jan-August 07
• Although there is 34% rise in number of brands advertised on Print in Jan-Aug 07 compared to Jan-Aug 06, there is a dip in their ad volumes.
• During Jan-Aug 07, Newspapers and Magazines saw an advertising ratio of 98:2.



Monthly trend of advertising by Automobile Industry
• Automobile advertising peaked in the month of March, where Hero Honda Motorcycles had the maximum ad insertions.
• January and June 07 also saw a small peak in automobile ads.

Segments of Automobile Industry on Print during Jan-August 2007



Maruti Suzuki had the maximum advertising share in the Car/Jeep segment during Jan-Aug 07.
• Motorcycles took the 2nd largest share of pie with 28% share, where maximum share was contributed by Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda Motors.
The Top 5 Automobile players on Print



• The Top 5 players had a 55% share in the overall automobile advertising during Jan-Aug 07.
• Maruti Suzuki took the lead by advertising maximum for its brand ‘Maruti Suzuki Zen Estillo’ whereas Tata Motors stood 2nd, advertising the most for ‘Tata Indica V2 Xeta Petrol’ and ‘Tata Indigo LS’.



New Automobile brands advertised on Print during Jan-August 07



• Overall 279 new brands were launched on Print under the Automobile sector, maximum new entries were in the Car/Jeep segment.
• GM (General Motors) had three of its brands in the Top 10 list.


Share in Metro vs. Non-Metro City newspapers

• In the Non-Metro city newspapers, Chandigarh had the maximum automobile advertising share during Jan-Aug 07.
• Whereas among the Metro cites, Mumbai was the focus for automobile advertisers..


Promotions preferred by Automobile players during Jan-August 07

• Automobile Industry used 41% of the sales promotion campaign during Jan-Aug 07..
• Car/Jeep segment used the maximum of Sales promotion campaigns.
• Automobile players preferred Multiple and Price Promotions.
