Advertising by Food & Beverages Industry in Print in H1 2007






Highlights:

• 8% dip in Print advertising of F&B Industry in H1'07

• Beverages garnered a maximum share of 33% in F&B sector

• F&B made the maximum use of West and North Zone for advertising

• Huge advertising in General Interest newspapers whereas in Magazines nearly 50% advertising share in went to Women’s genre

• Brooke Bond Lipton and Gujarat Corporative Milk & Marketing Federation (GCMMF) stood at 1st and 2nd positions

• GCMMF had 2 brands which made it to the top 3 among new brand launches

• In Sales Promotions, 'Contest Promotion' was used the maximum by F&B sector

Volume Growth in Food & Beverages Industry



• Food & Beverages contributed a small 1% of overall print advertising in H1'07

• Confectionary and Packaged Food items were the only 2 segments which showed growth in H1'07 over H1’06 whereas a dip was registered in other segments

Segregation of F&B sector in Print during H1'07



• Interestingly more than 50% of ad volumes in Beverages segment was contributed by Tea followed by Aerated Soft Drinks with 15% share

• Spices and Edible Oils were the 2 main categories that had the maximum share in the Packaged Food segment



Zonewise advertising share of F&B in H1'07



• Packaged Food and Beverages contributed an equal share of 33% each in the West Zone

• North Zone saw an advertising of 43% by Beverages and 25% by Packaged Food items



Newspapers and Magazines used in the ratio of 89:11
Publication Genres used by F&B sector during H1 ‘07



• Maximum advertising by 4 of the segments in Women’s magazines except for Confectionary which preferred advertising in Children-based magazines



Ranking of Top players of Food & Beverages in Print

• Maximum leap of 123 places registered by Raja Biscuits Industries which stood at 9th position in H1’07

• Brooke Bond Lipton jumped from 11th position in H1’06 to the No. 1 position in H1’07

• Coca-Cola was the only advertiser that stood consistently in the 3rd position in the first half of both the years



New launches by Food & Beverages Industry

• H1'07 F&B sector recorded approx. 643 new brands

• Packaged Food items had the highest number of new brand launches, i.e., 254 new brands followed by ‘Beverages’ with 176 new brands



Percentage share of Sales promotions in Print

• 21% of Sales promotional ads used by Food & Beverages in H1’07

• Contest promotion had the highest share of 45% followed by Add-on Promotion with 33%

• Beverages made the most use of Contests and Add-on promotion
