Water Purifiers/Filters Advertising in Print medium rises 6% in H1 2005: AdEx study

Key Findings:
• Water Purifiers/Filters advertising in Print medium dips 7% in 2004 compared to 2003
• 6% rise in Press advertising in the 1st half of 2005 compared to 1st half 2004
• Kent Grand R-O Water Purifier tops the brand list in Print in 1st half of 2005
• 96% advertising in Newspapers
• General interest publications are the choice of Advertisers.

This week, AdEx India looks at the Water Purifiers/Filters category. Let’s have a look at the growth in Water Purifiers/Filters advertising spends during the years 2001-04 in Print medium.


• 2001 observed a dip of 43% in advertising spends compared to 2000.
• After observing growth in two consecutive years, there was a 7% dip in advertising spends in 2004 compared to 2003

Did the category advertising spends in the 1st half of 2005 increased compared to spends in the 1st half of the previous year in Print medium? The chart below gives the answers


• Mere 6% rise in advertising spends in the 1st half of 2005 compared to the 1st half of 2004.

Let’s look at the Top 10 Brands advertised in Print during the 1st half of 2005.


• Kent Grand R-O Water Purifier brand of Kent R O Systems topped advertising with 19% share in the 1st half of 2005
• Aquaguard Reviva & Aquaguard E Boiling+ gets the 2nd & 3rd positions in the Top 10 brand list, with 12% & 11% shares respectively.

Which kind of publications, i.e., Newspapers or Magazines, was preferred by Water Purifiers/Filters advertisers in the 1st half of 2005? The pie chart below gives the answers


• 96% of the advertising spends went to Newspapers.
• Magazines got only 4% advertising spends

Lastly, which publication genres found preference with Water Purifiers/Filters Advertisers in the 1st half of 2005.


• In Newspapers, general interest ones got almost 100% advertising spends whereas business papers got only 0.4% advertising spends
• General interest & women’s magazines got 23% advertising spends each
