Magazine advertising spends grew at a steady pace of 15% in 2005: AdEx study

Key Findings:
• Magazine advertising spends grew at a steady pace of 15% in 2005 compared to 2004
• ‘Children Magazine’ witnessed the highest growth in terms of ad spends with 43% rise in 2005 compared to 2004
• In 2005 General Interest Magazines lead with 39% share of spends, followed by 21% in Women’s Magazines.
• Magazines with weekly periodicity had maximum share in advertising.
• ‘World Challenge’ leads the Top 10 chart of Loyal Magazine Advertisers in the year 2005

TThis week, AdEx India looks at Print Media advertising with the spotlight on ‘Magazines’ and its growth of spends across the years 2001-05.


 

• In terms of advertising spends, Magazines observed a 15% growth, whereas Newspaper registered a 13% growth in 2005 compared to 2004

Now, let us have a look at top 5 genres that had the highest growth in 2005 compared to 2004.


• The high rise in the spend of Assamese and Sanskrit Children Magazines were the major contributors in the growth of ‘Children Magazine’ genre.
• English Lifestyle Magazine dominates the genre.

Here’s how Magazine genres fared in 2005 and their share in advertising spends.


• English Women’s Magazines form a major part (57%) of the ‘Women’s Magazine’ genre, which had the second highest share of 21%.
• Business Magazines secured third position with 13% share of Magazine advertising spends

Let’s have a look at which periodicity is most preferred in Magazines


• Weekly Magazines have the 38% share of spends, making it the most preferred periodicity in magazines
• Monthly Magazines are a close competition with 36% of Magazine advertising spends

Following is the list of the categories in 2005 that preferred to advertise in Magazines than in Newspapers


• Product Categories like Camera-Accessories, Eclairs and Hair Conditioners advertised solely in Magazines
• The other product categories advertised mainly in Magazines, but also spent some percentage in Newspapers

Lastly, a loyalty chart of Top 10 Magazine advertisers in the year 2005


• ‘World Challenge’ tops the loyalty chart of Magazine advertisers
