Print sees 10-fold rise in number of brands advertised: AdEx Analysis

A Brief recap of the last week’s 10 Year Round up of Print Advertising – Part1

Part 1 Highlights:

• Print Ad volumes has seen rise of 2.2 times during 2008 compared to 1999.

• 3.6 times rise in Average number of ads appearing per day on Newspapers during 2008 over 1999.

• 'Banking/Finance/Investment' was the only sector to maintain its 3rd rank during 1999 and 2008.

• 'Corporate/Brand Image' was the only category to maintain its 6th Position in the Top 10 categories list in Print across both the years 1999 and 2008.

Part 2 Highlights:

• 10 times rise in number of brands advertised in Print during 2008 compared to 1999.

• ‘IIPM’ was the Top brand in Print during 2008 and ‘UTI’ in 1999.

• ‘Tata Motors Ltd’ had 3 of the Top 10 New brands advertised in Print during 2008

• English language Magazines were the top contributors in 1999 and 2008

• 10% rise in count of brands in Print during 2008 compared to same period in 2007..
• Whereas 10 times rise in number of brands advertised in Print during 2008 compared to 1999..

Top 10 Brands in Print (1999 and 2008)

• Top 10 brands in Print during 1999 was a mix of 4 brands of ‘Durables’, 3 belonged to ‘Automobile’ and 2 were from ‘Banking/Finance/Investment’ sector.
• 2 of the Top 10 brands in Print were of ‘Baja Auto Ltd’ during 1999.
• During 2008, 4 out of the Top 10 brands in Print had advertised for ‘Social Cause’.

• Top 100 Brands of 1999 in Print contributed for 30% which decreased to 1% in 2008.
• From 2004 to 2008 the share of 100 brands of 1999 was below 3%.

• 4 of the Top 10 New brands belonged to Government Departments.
‘Tata Indigo CC’, ‘Ministry of Steel’ and ‘Bharat Nirman’ were the Top 3 new brands advertised in Print during 2008.

Language wise share of Newspapers & Magazines

•  During 1999, English language Newspapers leads whereas during 2008 Regional language Newspapers had contributed maximum in overall Newspaper ad volumes.
Regional language and Hindi Newspapers had more share in 2008 compared to their respective share in 1999.

• English language Magazines were the top contributors in 1999 and 2008.
• Regional and Hindi language magazines were at 2nd and 3rd position respectively during 1999 and 2008.
