With the entry of the electronic media in India, over the
past few years, Publications have strongly felt the need for
niche publications in order to attract specific types of readers.
This has resulted in a growing number of Special Interest
Publications by the day. But still, amongst them Business
publications are the leaders in terms of gains from advertising.
Normally one would think of only Magazines as niche publications,
but because there are a lot of happenings in the Biz world
everyday, Newspapers are equally dominant in this category.
Business publications have accounted for 8% of all print advertising
for the three quarters this year. Amongst the Special Interest
Publications, Business Publications dominate by a long way,
contributing more than 60% of the revenue share. The following
graph illustrates this.

The different readership reflects on the top categories advertising
in Business Publications too. On analyzing the top categories,
we see a clear dominance of Business/Financial categories.
Audited/Unaudited Financial Results is the top category. Though
Cars/Jeeps figures amongst the top three categories here,
Two Wheelers the other dominant Automobile category on Print
is not even in the Top 20! Other top categories include Mutual
Funds, Insurance and Corporate Image-Bank. Business Publications
are usually full of advertisements of Seminars on topics like
Management, HR etc. resulting in Events ranking 5th here.
Software, Properties/Real Estates and Airlines are other interesting
ones featuring here.

Taking this further,
on analyzing Top categories in Business Magazines only, we find
Educational Institutions, Publications/Books and Readymade Garments
forcing their way into the Top 5 categories.

Dissecting the data for Main and Supplements,
we found the Watches category ranking fourth on Supplement
advertising in Business Publications. Travel & Tourism,
which was ranked 2nd in TV advertising, and Hotels manage
to sneak in here grabbing the 9th and 10th positions.
