The Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and YouTube announced the launch of a short film contest ‘India Is…A Visual Journey’. The contest aims at inspiring film makers, students and video enthusiasts. It will be open to participants across the globe.

The initiative’s objective is to connect with a larger audience and thus, MEA has partnered with a number of global players such as Google, Taj, Conde Nast Traveller and Incredible India.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Nikesh Arora, SVP and Chief Business Officer, Google said, “We are really happy to partner with India’s Ministry of External Affairs to launch this exciting initiative to showcase and celebrate India’s diversity on a global stage. YouTube is a powerful tool to express and share different opinions that can bring about a positive change in the society and as an organisation, we are committed to supporting such initiatives.”
YouTube has partnered with director and script writer Anurag Kashyap and his directors to produce five winning short showcase films.

Participants have to create five-minute films on the themes of ‘India is Incredible’, India is Unforgettable’ and ‘India is wherever you are’. All the movies will be featured on the contest’s official YouTube channel.

In the milieu of digitisation, the importance and consumption of online content has increased dramatically. Through the tie-up, YouTube is not only providing variety in terms of content, but also strengthening its position in the Indian market as online streaming content providers. India currently stands third globally in terms of views and revenues of YouTube.

The website has partnered with more than 15 Indian content creators such as Rajshree, Sony, etc in the recent past and provides an array of unique content which is not available on television otherwise.

‘India Is’ received more than 250 video entries from 42 countries last year. The contest, this year, will be judged by an eminent panel of judges who will select a total of ten winners.
