Yahoo! launches ymail and

Yahoo! Inc. has launched and from June 19, 2008. Since Yahoo! has millions of users, many desirable e-mail addresses are taken for the domain, as well as for localised versions of the name space in countries around the world. Many desirable e-mail addresses for the domain were unavailable to users who wanted to personalize their e-mail IDs.

John Kremer, VP, Yahoo! Mail, said, “We recognise that people want an email address that reflects who they are, whether they are signing up for an email address for the first time or simply updating their email pseudonym to reflect the stage they are at in life”

He added, “We are thrilled to be able to offer new Yahoo! email domain choices to Internet users, along with the same great web mail experience that hundreds of millions of people have already come to expect.”

The new e-mail addresses will have the same Yahoo! Mail features like unlimited storage, integrated instant messaging and text messaging, protection from spam and viruses, and country-specific e-mail account.

The Yahoo! ID claims to work for everything across the Yahoo! network, from checking email to checking out Messenger, Flickr, Groups, Sports, Finance, and much more.

In many markets, Yahoo! said it will help users to transfer their e-mail and contacts to their new address and notify friends of their new e-mail address

According to Jupiter research, Yahoo! mail is twice the size of its nearest rival, Hotmail, in terms of overall and broadband users and has currently over 250 million users.
