Apple TV has been in the business for quite some time now and recently released fifth developer beta builds of its iOS, tvOS, watchOS and MacOS Sierra platforms, the sixth beta releases have now arrived in short order.
Twitter on the other hand has launched Twitter Live which is creating waves around the world. Its recent acquisition of rights to air live NFL games on its platform has come as a boost for the social media giant.
According latest developments it is reported that Twitter plans to get on board Apple TV. Such reports have seen Twitter’s share rise by 7 per cent. In a bid to boost its live on-air activities on Twitter live, the company looks forward to a synergy with the Cupertino based giant. Though Apple and Twitter haven’t spoken officially about it, media reports suggest this could soon turn into reality.
Twitter live users were treated with the live streaming of the Wimbledon Tennis tournament recently. With Twitter failing to match Facebook’s prowess, this step forward is expected to turn fortunes and improve its not so impressive user growth.
When Twitter released its quarter results recently it was reported that its shares had dropped 10 per cent, however, the company posted quarterly revenues of $602 million, 20 per cent higher year on year. Quarterly GAAP net loss was $107 million, or ($0.15) per diluted share with quarterly non-GAAP net income of $93 million, or $0.13 per diluted share. Average monthly active users (MAUs) were 313 million for the quarter, up 3% year-over-year and compared to 310 million in the previous quarter. Mobile MAUs represented approximately 82% of total MAUs.
Mobile advertising revenue was 89% of total advertising revenue. Advertising revenue was reported at $535 million, an increase of 18% year-over-year. Twitter live will look at improving these numbers in the near future.
Apple on the other hand sees a bright spot in India. In a recent interview with Washington Post Tim Cook said there is great potential in the country to help Apple grow its business.
As time goes we could expect Twitter Live to tie up with major sporting events in India like the IPL, ISL and PKL in order to attract more users in a country that seems to have an outburst of potential. Apple TV in India is still trying to gain momentum, and this could be the right time for both the platforms to enter India with newer content and ideas to cater to the quickly rising smartphone and internet user base in the world.
