Twitter launches ‘threads,’ a new feature for posting tweetstorms

Twitter has a history of studying how people use the service and the Retweet, '@reply', and hashtag are examples of this. When a few years ago Twitter noticed people creatively stitching Tweets together to share more information or tell a longer story, it saw this approach (termed “threading”) as an innovative way to present a train of thought, made up of connected but individual elements.

Now, hundreds of thousands of threads are Tweeted every day but this method of Tweeting, while effective and popular, can be tricky for some to create and it’s often tough to read or discover all the Tweets in a thread. That’s when Twitter decided to make things simpler to not only thread Tweets together but also find them.

Twitter did this made by adding a plus button in the composer, so a user can connect his thoughts and publish threaded Tweets all at the same time. Users can also continue adding more Tweets to the published thread any time with the new “Add another Tweet” button. Additionally, it’s also now simpler to spot a thread with Twitter adding a “Show this thread” label.

This comes soon after a few weeks ago, Twitter expanded its character count to make it easier for people to fit what they’re thinking into a Tweet. But since the need of the hour was also for people wanting to serialise a longer story or thought, or provide ongoing commentary on an event or topic, this update to threads comes in.
