TimesDeal’s mobile recharge deal gets record orders

TimesDeal.com, the group buying portal of The Times of India Group, claims to have got 50,000 orders in a single day for a deal, wherein users needed to pay just Rs 50 and get a mobile recharge voucher from PayTM worth Rs 100.

The deal was for one day on December 1, 2011. As per ComScore data, Timesdeal saw a huge traffic surge, with more than 250,000 unique visitors reported for that day.

Commenting on the deal, Rishi Khiani, CEO, Times Internet Ltd, said, “Offering users relevant high value-for-money deals like these has always been our primary focus for TimesDeal. For both TimesDeal and PayTM it was of paramount importance to make the process of buying and redeeming this deal secure and simple, and I am glad we have been able to achieve that. The overwhelming response bears testimony to this.”

Paytm.com, the partner in the deal, is a subsidiary of One97 Communications. It is an e-commerce platform that offers a medium for mobile users to recharge their prepaid connections. The offer generated almost 100,000 visits on PayTM, while the number of new users spiked by 1700 per cent on that day.

“Unparalleled reach of TimesDeal in online and offline world, combined with PayTM’s perfect mass-appeal product made this epic. Wish we both create a next benchmark of selling 100,000 orders in a day!” remarked Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, One97 Communications Ltd.

TimesDeal.com features a collective buying deal everyday for users. These deals include tickets to events, places to see, restaurant deals, shopping deals, and more, across six cities in India – Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai. By focusing on one deal a day, TimesDeal.com keeps it simple and affordable. And while users get the fabulous prices, the participating merchants get a platform to promote and maximise their business. TimesDeal.com works with these merchants to get across the best deals to its users, who, when they subscribe, get a deal in their mailbox every day.
