The Times of India formally launches Kolkata-specific portal

The Times of India, which had unveiled its city-specific portal in January 2008, has now officially launched the portal. The portal aims to be a one-stop virtual destination for any information on Kolkata. The idea is to make it a platform for strong communities. It will also be a repository of information ranging from daily news, features, sports, entertainment, events, exhibitions and emergency numbers, among others.

The portal would also have an interactive section with a panel of experts to attend to the various queries ranging from health to legal issues. The section on High Life would carry information on the city’s pubs, discos and clubs. Information would also be made available on real estate, travel, etc.

Amitava Bhattacharya, General Manager, The Times of India Group, said, “In case of other cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune, the print products were launched first, which was then followed by the website launches. But in case of Kolkata, it is the opposite. The website has been launched first.”
