Tata Teleservices Limited unveiled its national brand for telecom services - Tata Indicom - at the launch of its basic services in Tamil Nadu circle recently. Tata Indicom will be the umbrella brand for all the voice and data products of Tata Teleservices - mobile and fixed wireless and WLL services, ILD, NLD, broadband, VSAT services, wireline services, ISDN, DSL and Internet services, cybercafes and pay telephone booths etc.
The new brand will be launched across the country and all the offerings of the company will come under one banner in the next three months. The new brand name with its friendly mascot is envisioned to become a reliable, trustworthy, understanding and unpretentious but responsible, responsive and caring friend to the company's customers, he added.
As part of TTSL's Tamil Nadu operations, in phase one, the company would launch its services in 25 markets by mid 2003, according to R Balachandran, chief operating officer of Tata Teleservices - Tamil Nadu circle. The company plans to invest Rs 1,200 crore in the state in the first five years alone and expects to generate a direct and indirect employment ofupto 8,000 with five lakh customers, he said. Besides Chennai, the other cities that would be covered include Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Madurai and Trichy among others.
It is first starting with voice services - fixed wireless and LiMo (limited mobility) - and will launch other services like Centrex (virtual EPABX), wireline, data services, pay phones etc in a phased manner. In certain high density areas, the company will use DLC (digital loop carrier) equipment for point to point wireline connectivity. In these locations it would be able to offer its data services first.
