SMG Convonix announces change in leadership, as CEO Vishal Sampat leaves to join Reliance Jio

SMG Convonix, the full service digital agency of Starcom Mediavest Group (SMG) part of the Publicis Groupe, has announced change in its leadership from March end.

Founder & CEO of Convonix, Vishal Sampat, will be leaving the company and the Co-founders Sarfaraz Khimani & Pallav Jain will be taking over as co-CEOs of the agency effective 31st March. Sampat will be joining Reliance JIO as its Chief Digital Officer.

Founded in 2003 by Sampat, Khimani and Jain while they were at college, SMG Convonix has grown from a three-man shop to a digital agency powerhouse with work spanning the globe. With a 400 strong talent base across three offices in Mumbai and Delhi, SMG Convonix is now one of the largest digital firms in India specialising in Performance Marketing. The agency activates global work from its Mumbai base for many of SMG’s marquee global clients across multiple geographies, North America, the Nordics, Europe and SEA. 

Acquired by Publicis in 2013, SMG Convonix has been a key factor in the success of Starcom Mediavest in India with a 2015 new business roster of Dabur, Etihad, Jet Airways, Coverfox, Citi, Visa, Oppo, NestAway and  Bla Bla Cars in India and clients like Air Asia across the region. 

Speaking on the change in leadership, Hanley King, Chairman of SMG India said, “SMG Convonix is one of the jewels in our crown, not just for Starcom India but globally. Vishal, Pallav and Safu have built an incredible organisation and Vishal is handing over the reins to his Co-Founders with the company poised for even greater growth in the future. Vishal has been a superb partner to work with over the past two years and I wish him all the very best with Reliance. I know he will bring the same level of passion, energy and commitment to his future endeavours as he has to Convonix.”

Building on Sampat’s thoughts, Jain had this to say. “The story of Convonix mirrors the journey of digital in India. I have been fortunate to have played a role in this amazing story thus far and look forward to continuing this journey with all my amazing colleagues at SMG Convonix. The journey of digital in India has only begun; the best is yet to come.”

“The last 13 years have been a phenomenal ride for the three of us. I feel extremely lucky to have built Convonix to where we are today with two close friends while preserving our friendship. We have a lot we still want to achieve in the coming years and I'm looking forward to continuing this journey with Pallav,” added Khimani.
