Rishi Khiani, Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from his role at Times Internet Ltd. pursue opportunities outside the company. Sources say he might be leaving to start his own venture. In the meanwhile The Times Group has announced the appointment of Satyan Gajwani as the new CEO with immediate effect. Rishi will continue to stay on with the company till August 17, 2012. Gajwani was the director of new media at the Times Group.
Rishi Khiani joined Times Internet Ltd as CEO in 2009 moving from Web18, the Internet arm of the Network18 Group, where he was COO. In the past, Khiani has been the CEO of Sidewalks of the World from January 2004 to July 2007, and CEO, UrbanEye Media, a computer software firm, from April 1998 to August 2006. UrbanEye Media was acquired by the Network18 Group in August 2007. Khiani had done his Entrepreneurial Studies from Babson College and had replaced Dinesh Wadhawan who was MD and CEO of Times Internet Ltd up until June 2009.
Commenting on the new development, Gajwani said "We're sad to see Rishi move on, but excited for his future ahead. Indiatimes has made great progress under his leadership, and I'm excited to take it forward to new and bigger heights. These are big shoes to fill but with such a strong team in place, I'm sure we'll succeed."
Satyan Gajwani’s focus till now has been on the Times group's key digital initiatives, developing content and technology platforms for news, business news, music, video, e-commerce, local, and mobile. Satyan is also a core member of Times' Digital Investments Portfolio team, and he engages in all key strategic initiatives for the group across other media. Satyan earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Stanford University and worked at Barclays Bank before joining The Times Group.
Past CEOs of Indiatimes include Mahendra Swarup, now President and Member of the Executive Committee of the Indian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (IVCA) and Chief Mentor, Smile Interactive Group and Sunil Rajshekhar, now CEO of Times Group Company that publishes Vijay Karnataka.
Under Rishi’s leadership, TIL grew its user base by 150% to 28 million visitors and saw significant growth in revenues and launch of strategic properties like Ganna.com and the new Indiatimes.com. The company also introduced highly successful live streaming of the latest season of IPL cricket matches.
