Sanjay Tripathy’s Twitter post #BMWFire sparks social media fury

Sanjay Tripathy, Co-founder and CEO, Agilio, took to social media to post about the underside of his BMW bonnet catching fire yesterday. He posted images and the CCTV footage calling out on the carelessness of the brand and their denial to provide assistance as his car is five years old. Several industry people and others shared his post and expressed their fury with the brand on social media and it is now going viral.

Tripathy told exchange4media that he expected BMW customer service to respond promptly and they could have handled the situation in a much better fashion. “A fire under the bonnet can quickly become a catastrophe and considering the gravity of the situation, BMW customer service should have responded promptly rather than sticking to a scripted response. In fact, for hours nobody from BMW got back in spite of me reporting the fire around 7:15am,” he said.

He also expressed his disappointment on how the brand recalled a faulty batch of cars all over the world but this has been overlooked in India. “This lackadaisical attitude, coupled with the fact that over a million cars of similar batches have been recalled in North America and nothing has been done in India speaks volumes about the casual approach of the company towards customers here. I have always had a very good experience with BMW service and am appalled at their response to a critical situation. I wish so-called first world companies could appreciate the value of third world lives,” said Tripathy.
