Pepperfry.com is going to launch ‘Design Democracy’, the country’s first furniture design crowd-sourcing challenge, on Republic day. The competition will remain open till February 28, 2015.
‘Design Democracy’ provides a platform to people to showcase their works. Those interested to participate in the competition can visit www.pepperfry.com/designdemocracy.html and submit their designs.
Pepperfry will showcase the designs on its Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Pepperfry?fref=ts) with credits.
The competition has three stages. In the first stage, Citius - the power rests with people, who can vote for their favourite designs by clicking on the ‘like’ button on Pepperfry’s Facebook page. In the second stage, Altius, the popular designs will be shortlisted by a panel of leading names from the world of art and design. ‘Design Democracy’ will conclude with Fortius the final stage where the winners will be selected on the basis of commercial and technical feasibility of their designs.
The winning designs will be brought to life by Pepperfry’s assistance, which will go up for sale on the site. Designers will not only begin with a great start of having their designs going up for commercial sale, but will also be offered a democratic revenue sharing model on the pieces sold.
“Ideas know no boundaries. India has an abundance of talent, which is looking for a platform. Pepperfry has always gone beyond the obvious to bring such talent to the fore and this initiative is yet another first for India from us,” said Ambareesh Murty, Founder and CEO, Pepperfry.
