None of the telcos have any idea of the user’s need: Saurabh Gupta, Phonethics Mobile Media

Phonethics recently launched the first movie made for mobile and also announced its plans for coming out with a new software, ‘Mungle’. In a freewheeling chat with exchange4media, Saurabh Gupta, Director, Phonethics, reveals the company’s plans and the need for content in the mobile market.

Phonethics is a content creation company for mobile phones. They recently came out with India’s first movie especially produced for the mobile platform – ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ – starring Rahul Bose. With the movie premiering on Reliance Mobile World, the company has ensured some response to its novel initiative. “This is just the first step in our future plans,” said Gupta.

Explaining the company’s plans in the mobile content creation field, Gupta said, “Mobile is a convergence of devices and there is a dearth of quality content for the mobile phones in the country. None of the telcos have any idea on the user’s need of mobile content.”

Gupta further said, “Majority of the players in this field are content aggregators and not content creators. We will be creating mobile content with different parameters in mind for the best use of the product on the mobile phones.” He added that the company was planning to create products for sectors such as healthcare, entertainment and education.

The company’s software ‘Mungle’ is a Java-based application, which allows the user to select the content that he wants to download on to his mobile. The software, still in its Beta stage, will be launched sometime early next year and the company will be distributing the software for free. The content, to be downloaded through the software, will be charged and the company intends to make it one of its primary revenue streams.

The newly launched short movie is one of the many to be launched soon by the company. They are also open to new partnerships to provide content on various platforms and diverse sectors. Said Gupta, “We are the pioneers in this space and we will continue to churn out much more stuff in the coming years.”
