Neo Sports, STAR India join hands to celebrate cricket on the web

Can’t get a day off to watch cricket at home? Watch it online. Neo Sports, in an alliance with their distribution partner STAR India, has launched, where visitors can watch the live video streams of the ongoing India-West Indies cricket series.

And from now on, there won’t be any need to press F5 every other minute for the latest cricket scores on your webpage. All surfers have to do is visit the webpage which plays host to the live streaming of the matches.

Commenting on this initiative, Shashi Kalathil, CEO, Neo Sports Broadcast Pvt Ltd, said, “Lots of cricket is being played during office hours, so cricket fans usually miss most parts of the match. Now, with this initiative, STAR India – our distribution partner – is streaming our feeds live on the portal and we are trying to make this portal ‘the ultimate destination’ for cricket viewers on the Internet.”

“We, at Nimbus with our most advanced technical knowledge, are looking at various modes of monetising the feeds,” added Kalathil. When queried on the revenue-sharing with STAR, he explained, “In the present arrangement, Nimbus gets to keep the revenues earned while STAR gets a commission from it.”

Revealing their plans for continued innovations like these, Kalathil talked about the usage of mobile platform to take this initiative forward. Citing an example, he said, “During a match, if a batsman gets out, we can send a message to the customer, who can then visit the site and watch the clip.” He further said that Nimbus could not do mobile streaming as they did not hold the rights for the same.

With more such initiatives, the digital infrastructure in the country has to be improved to sustain growth, which the government has to take a call on. Till then, let’s celebrate cricket on the web.
