MyGamma.com bullish about growth in mobile social networking community

MyGamma.com, a mobile social networking community, has chalked out plans to become a leading player in the domain. The WAP-enabled site connects two distinct audiences around the globe – the newly connected emerging middle class in developing markets and the blue collar sector in developed regions. These ‘unwired’ consumers are accessing the mobile Internet on their phones due to widespread and affordable wireless access.

MyGamma.com currently has over 3.1 million users across 76 countries in the world. The community claims to have grown from 0 to 670,000 users in India since its launch here in 2005.

In addition to the normal community interaction by a user through chat, groups and blogs, the MyGamma community also has other activities like sharing testimonials, Vote for Your Favorite User, Hall of Fame, Gamma Life ladder, Games, Merchant Store.

The community also has a merchant store for buying rich media content through Gamma Dollars-myGamma community currency. Gamma Dollars are points that can be bought through a premium SMS or credit card and used in the community for buying content, gifting, etc.

Manish Mishra, Executive Producer- India, myGamma.com, said, “We promote our community amongst the WAP users across the globe on our own advertising network, which provides us excellent growth in terms of getting new users. Approximately 3,500-4,000 new users across the globe join the community daily, and average two countries per month are added to our community.”

“We market/ promote myGamma on our own myGamma advertising network, which has 2,000 best WAP sites of the world. To share the traffic of our network, during July 2008 we served little over 1.6 billion page views on our network. Out of this, close to 225 million page views were contributed by Indian WAP users. Mobile Internet penetration in the emerging economies is far better than the Internet penetration and its usage charges are also very affordable, which is resulting in such a fast growth of this medium in these countries,” Mishra claimed.

“We are a community-based mobile advertising network and have not heard any competitor as of now. There are mobile advertising networks or mobile communities around the world, but a combination like myGamma is not heard of. We wanted to evolve as the best and the largest mobile social networking community. We also wanted to have more and more brands and services on our network to reach out to this untapped and interactive consumer base,” he added.
