MTNL joins hands with Geneva Software Technologies to launch multilingual SMS service

MTNL Delhi, in association with Geneva Software Technologies Ltd, has launched ‘Sarv Bhasha Sandesh’, an SMS service in 11 languages – Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. This value added service is available to subscribers of Dolphin and Trump, which are MTNL’s postpaid and prepaid services, respectively. The SMS charges shall be Re 1 per message for local and STD for Dolphin connections, and Rs 2 for Trump connections.

According to AK Arora, Executive Director, MTNL Delhi, “This service will give customers an opportunity to compose and send SMS in the language of their choice, and thereby encourage the use of their mother tongue. This technology will help in breaking the language barrier in digital communication.”

R Amar Singh, Director-Marketing, Geneva Software Technologies Ltd, said, “This application will be of immense help to rural subscribers, particularly the farmers. It will also connect local people with the government and will help in bridging the human relationship with their own local languages.”

Gaurav S, Executive Director, Geneva Software Technologies Ltd, said that all MTNL subscribers with GPRS handsets could download the application from the MTNL website. If the subscriber did not have a GPRS handset, then he could get the application through Bluetooth too, from MTNL franchisers.

Arora added, “We will send SMS to all our subscribers, introducing our new value added service. We will be advertsing on radio and print to inform about our service to non-MTNL subscribers. We would also take the help of our franchisers in our marketing campaign.”
