MSN India emphasises thrust on entertainment with online voting for IIFA Awards

MSN India is growing and it is aggressively looking at the entertainment space in the country. Testimony to the company’s intentions is its association with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) for the past five years. This year, too, MSN has announced online voting on its portal for the 6th Annual IIFA Awards 2006 which will be held in Dubai on June 16.

The nominees for each category are being shortlisted by an industry panel of film experts’. Bollywood fans from India and across the globe will then vote online to decide the winners. MSN India will host the online voting exclusively; fans can vote for their favourite performers of the year on www.msn.co.in.

Krishna Prasad, Head of Programming, MSN India, said, “The IIFA Awards Trophy is a true symbol of outstanding achievement presented to some of the greatest talents in Indian and international cinema. It is the only credible award ceremony in the country, audited by Price Waterhouse Coopers which is also the official audit firm of the Oscars. We have always been associated with supporting quality entertainment and in the recent past have promoted films like Mangal Pandey, Rang De Basanti, Guru and many others.”

Prasad explained that MSN is always looking at providing quality content to its users. “There is a large base of users who is constantly looking for online content around entertainment. And the Indian entertainment space is the buzzword around the world. That is why MSN is very keen to be in this space,” he said.

MSN has totally redefined and revamped its entertainment offering. It has a new entertainment channel ‘Bollywood and Entertainment’ on its portal that features a long list of celebrities who will write exclusive columns for the site. “There will be lot of new content and we will try to bring things much faster to consumers than others in the space. We want to now compete horizontally and address a segment of consumers constantly looking for information,” Prasad disclosed.

MSN India is vying to uniquely blend technology and cinema to give a whole new definition of entertainment and value to its users.
