MouthShut.com, one of Asia’s first and largest user-generated portals with over 32 lakh registered users, plans to tap into social media marketing to reach out to their customers. Seen as a structure of social media, Mouthshut.com mainly believes in word-of-mouth recommendations, which are in the form of user-generated product reviews, consumer blogs and so on.
In conversation with exchange4media.com, Faisal Farooqui, CEO, Mouthshut.com, said that the user-generated portal would be focusing a lot more on social media marketing with the aim of staying ahead of the curve, besides involving users through channels like YouTube and Facebook, providing them with updates on MouthShut.com.
“Social media is the next generation of media, which will evolve and merge with mainstream media with the advent of mobile and Internet in India. We are, therefore, focusing a lot on social media marketing with an aim to remain ahead of the curve. We are thus going to involve the users through multiple channels and reach out to them not just through emails, but also through channels like YouTube and Facebook,” said Farooqui.
Meanwhile, MouthShut.com will also provide a free account to corporates and brands, which will allow them to participate on the portal. This free service is slated to be launched by the end of July. The paid account, which was launched a year and a half ago, will also continue alongside. The free service is said to be user-friendly, where the user can create his brand page on MouthShut.com and even resolve complaints about his brands and respond to the reviews.
Farooqui further said, “We are part of the social media and we will keep innovating to stay ahead of the curve and adapt ourselves to customers’ needs. The objective of free service is to help brands reach out to their customers and resolve their problems, and this will help us in our revenue generation too.”
This apart, MouthShut.com also plans to hire a Director as well as Senior Manager- Social Media Marketing by the end of July 2009 to head its entire social media marketing operations. The company is also on the lookout for hiring people who love the Internet and understand community work online and who can translate them offline.
