Microsoft unveils 250 custom domains to provide personalised email service

Microsoft has announced the launch of 250 custom domains for Indian users, thus allowing them to have a distinct personalised email ID that will be powered by Windows Live Hotmail. An official communiqué stated that Microsoft intends to continue to reveal more new custom domains for users over the next few months, and also look at feedback from users and communities to provide its users more personalised email IDs on demand.

Various categories on will list a number of custom domains that would describe a user’s personality, indicate where he/she live, personify the tastes and likes, and much more.

“Our research shows that the youth today want their own identity and there are not enough email IDs available to truly describe one’s personality. An email ID is a part of one’s own identity, and since people use email as the primary mode of contact, it is important to have an email ID which is unique. This led us to roll out a comprehensive list of free personalised email IDs that will give users more choices in an email ID with all the added features of their Windows Live Hotmail account,” said Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager, Online Services Business, Microsoft India.

Speaking about the marketing campaign for the new initiative, Bindra observed, “Even as kids, we wanted our own identity. This thought process runs behind our marketing campaign, ‘No More Same Pinch’. This campaign explains why a unique identity is important to consumers today and why we need to customise email services for every different consumer. Personalised email IDs will also be of great significance to brands and organisations who would want to create communities and engage deeply with every unique consumer.”

“Windows Live Hotmail will now give users a high degree of customisation with a wide range of innovative and self-descriptive customised domains, a platform to express their unique personality in the vast online world,” added Samir Saraiya, Product Head-Windows Live Services, Microsoft India
