Kiran Bedi, retired IPS officer and Founder Chairperson of India Vision Foundation, has launched ‘Safer India’, as a mission to make India a safer place to live in. The Foundation has also launched a website in association with Mobile Mantra – saferindia.com – which would act as a bridge between ordinary citizens and police services.
The website would encourage citizens to lodge complaints with the police, and if the police is reluctant to do so, citizens can take help of the site to lodge complaints. The website would forward the emails of the complainants to the police headquarters for their redressal.
“I have an inside of knowledge of policing and I know the strength and weaknesses of the department. This is the time for me to utilise my experience in serving people as an ordinary citizen. A lot of complaints go unregistered due to the callous attitude of police personnel. We want the common citizen to come forward and lodge genuine complaints. This would put a pressure on the police department to take complaints seriously and act accordingly,” said Bedi.
According to Naveen Varshneya, CEO, Mobile Mantra, only five per cent of the actual capacity of the site was being used, and that the company had planned to develop it more in the future.
The website also provides some useful information like the working on the entire police system and all about first information reports (FIR), among others. There are also provisions to access the site in a better way through a Complainant Login and Police Login.
