IAMAI announces Info Edge’s Hitesh Oberoi as new Chairman

Hitesh Oberoi, Co-founder and CEO of Info Edge India Ltd, is the new Chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). Oberoi would be taking over from Shailesh Rao, Managing Director of Google India.

Speaking on his new role, Oberoi said, “The digital industry is at an inflection point and is growing steadily. IAMAI, which has been working persistently towards the growth of the medium, is also growing. We plan to engage more closely with the Government to ensure that the online industry registers a balance growth in the years to come and the Internet user base widens.”

Stressing on the need to bring science into the art of marketing, Oberoi said, “This is important as it enables the companies to measure the success of their strategies. Mobile marketing is another area that will change the way businesses operate.”

Hemant Sachdev, Joint Managing Director, Microsoft Corporation, is the new Vice-Chairman, who will take over his new role from Ambareesh Murty, Country Manager, eBay India.

Dhruv Shringi, Founder and CEO of, is the new Treasurer. He will take over from Nalin Shinghal, Director-Tourism, IRCTC.

Identifying marketing as the key to build brands, the 7th IAMAI Marketing Conclave brought together experts from the world of marketing to discuss and deliberate the evolution of the strategies.

Speaking at the Conclave, Dulles Krishnan, Director, IBM Commerce Solutions, said that the digital medium had huge potential to be the differentiator in marketing strategies. “The online medium presents huge potential for the marketing community as data suggests that the medium has not been tapped to its fullest extent,” Krishnan said.

Vivek Bhargava, CEO, Communicate2 said that the need of the hour for the online marketing industry was a healthy mix of budget. “At present, a skewed budgeting system is not letting the industry to register a balanced growth. Companies need to realise that a healthy mix of budget for the traditional, offline and online media is the key to build successful brands,” Bhargava said.

Nagesh Alai, President of AAAI, emphasised that understanding the online medium was needed so that strategies that would ensure the growth of the industry could be formulated. He said, “The online marketing industry has a huge potential as it will boost e-commerce and build brands at competitive costs.”
