The Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) has announced the shortlist for the 2008 Meffys Awards, and representing India are Hungama Mobile and FTV, Tata Indicom and Opera Software, and IMImobile. Entries have been received from over 20 countries for the Meffys this year.
Hungama Mobile’s campaign for FTV India enables downloading of FTV Mobile application, FTV videos, imagery, fashion tips, fashion games, etc, on mobile phones. Last year, the company had won a Meffys Award for Best Marketing Campaign in Mobile Entertainment, for its campaigns for Hutch and Casino Royale.
Commenting on this recognition for the second time in a row, Neeraj Roy, MD & CEO, Hungama Mobile, said, “We are delighted to be nominated for the second year in a row. The Meffys is an international platform and it is truly an honour for us to be nominated for the creativity demonstrated by the team at Hungama Mobile. The folks at FTV India were very receptive to the ideas given by our team and were committed towards offering a converged consumer experience across mobile, Internet and television.”
Tarun Srivastava, Business Head, Fashion TV India, said, “FTV India is keen to offer a converged media platform to consumers and advertisers alike. With FTV Mobile and FTV Online the existing popularity of the channel is complete. We are happy to have received this recognition of being nominated for the Meffys and we will continue to innovate further with our partners Hungama Mobile to give the most engaging consumer experience across all the three screens.”
IMImobile, in association with Nokia, earned it self a nomination for its own ‘UnIspace’ in the Emerging Markets Award category following a successful deployment at Malaysian operator Maxis.
Vishwanath Alluri, CEO, IMImobile, said, “We are seeing very strong demand from operators to roll out mobile user-generated content services, and it is great that Meffys, the Oscars of mobile entertainment, have recognised that UnIspace offers a cost-effective and very fast route for operators to do this. Malaysian operator Maxis recorded 150,000 uploads and downloads in just seven months. IMImobile is committed to developing and managing innovative new services for our global clients and we are very pleased with this latest endorsement.”
Rimma Perelmuter, Executive Director, Mobile Entertainment Forum, said, “This year’s shortlist provides an excellent snapshot of this cutting-edge industry and an insight into what we can expect in the near future. The 2008 Meffys nominees focused on providing analytics, addressing usability concerns and tackling merchandising and pricing issues, which all goes to prove that the mobile entertainment industry is maturing. The stage is now set for an exciting awards show at Cannes, appropriately timed to precede the world famous Cannes Film Festival.”
The category of Technology Innovation has attracted the most entries this year, followed closely by the category of Marketing Campaign and Content. This year, the MEF, in association with Nokia for the second year running, would be hosted by the popular TV presenter and Gadget Show guru Suzi Perry. The winners’ names would be unveiled on May 8, 2008.
