Google buys Facebook app marketing firm Toro

Google has acquired  a company called Toro, which helps developers promote their apps on Facebook. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, though TechCrunch quoted a Google spokesperson as saying that Toro will be integrated with the Google mobile team.

In the announcement on its official blog, Toro said that post the acquisition its team would have “greater resources and distribution now available at our disposal”. It also seems that Toro will no longer be working on its core strength of Facebook advertising. In the blog post, the company recommended “working with an alternative Facebook PMD for new campaigns going forward”.

Toro said campaign creation has been suspended for the time being though it will continue to optimize and update dashboards for existing marketing customers, while reporting customers will also continue to receive reports.

Toro was earlier known as Red Hot Labs and was founded by Amitt Mahajan, Joel Poloney and Dave Pekar in 2012. Prior to starting Toro, Mahajan and Poloney had founded MyMiniLife, which was later acquired by Zynga. Both Mahajan and Ploney, along with Pekar, played key roles in the development of the hit game, Farmville.
