Global Mobile Awards for 2008 have been announced. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Group Chairman and CEO, Bharti Enterprises, has been awarded the GSM Association Chairman’s Award. This Award is the highest honour in the global telecom sector. Mittal bagged this Award for his contribution to the development of India’s telecom sector.
Airtel also won an award in the Best Billing and Customer Solution category for its mChek on Airtel Mobile Payments Service.
Reacting to winning the Award, Mittal said, “This is a tremendous honour and I would like to thank the GSM Association for considering me worthy of this Award. The other winners included: Best Mobile Handset or Device – SonyEricsson W910 Walkman Phone; Best Mobile Social Networking Service – BuzzCity: myGamma.com; Best Mobile Infotainment Portal for News/entertainment – Yahoo! Connected Life: Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0; Best Use of Mobile for Social & Economic Development – Grameenphone: CellBazaar; and Best Mobile Enterprise Product or Service – Microsoft: Windows Mobile 6; among others.
