Facebook exceeded analyst expectations on all fronts in Q2Y15, by growing revenue, profits as well as user base and mobile advertising revenue.
Overall revenues stood at $ 4.04 billion, up from $ 2.9 billion for the same period in 2014. Advertising revenue also went up to $ 3.8 billion from $ 2.6 billion for the same period in 2014 — a rise of 43 per cent.
Daily active users (DAUs) were 968 million on average for June 2015, an increase of 17 per cent YoY. Mobile DAUs were 844 million on average for June 2015, an increase of 29 per cent YoY. Monthly active users (MAUs) stood at 1.49 billion as of June 30, 2015, an increase of 13 per cent YoY, while mobile MAUs were 1.31 billion as of June 30, 2015, an increase of 23 per cent YoY.
Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 76 per cent of advertising revenue for the second quarter of 2015, up from approximately 62 per cent of advertising revenue in the second quarter of 2014.
In the earnings call to analysts and media, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, said that videos would continue to be an important part of the social network going forward. He also claimed that users were sharing 40 per cent more videos on their network than others.
